Issaquah

One of the crappy things about taking a vacation is that when I'm gone there's not someone there doing my work. As such, when I get back I end up putting in all kinds of extra hours trying to get things caught up at work. I worked late all last week and even went in for four and a half hours today and I'm still not caught up yet. The good news is that I am finally fully staffed. Finally! However, it will take a while to get things caught up. I figure by the time I take my next vacation in October, I'll be caught up with everything just in time to get behind. But, at least it won't be as bad as it is now. Anyhow, on with the reminiscing of my vacation which is beginning to seem so long ago and not worth writing about.

I stayed with my old roommate, Patty. She lives in a quaint town called Issaquah. Patty moved up there to be close to her daughter and son-in-law, who became friends of mine too when they lived down here. Harry works for a "major software manufacturer." Think Seattle, or maybe Redmond, and you'll know which one I am talking about.

Anyhow, my first day there was fairly uneventful. I arrived at Patty's and we took a walk around Issaquah. The Seattle area seems to be like most metropolitan areas where one town runs into another. However, up there it doesn't seem quite so congested because everything is surrounded by huge trees and large lakes. There seems to be lots of cars but I really didn't see many people walking around like you do here in L.A.

Issaquah is a quaint little place. We stopped by the park and took a picture with the statue above. I took a pic of the mural above because it was so interesting and rich with the history of the area. Sadly, I didn't make it by Boehms though. Luckily, they sell their delectable confections online though. I might just have to place an order.

In the evening we went over to Jules and Harry's new house. They just had their second child. The beautiful baby that I fell in love with. We bonded in some kind of way. Jules was impressed by how I could get her to fall asleep.I think mostly she was impressed because I did it by sing-songing "La...la...la" because I don't know any lullabyes. It kind of saddens me though to think that I won't ever have a baby of my own. But, I also think that it's for the best. I think that opportunity has passed me by. I don't know how women my age do it and work on top of it. I'm not home enough to get a dog. How in the world would I have the time to devote to the needs of a child?

Issaquah (Is-ah-quaw)  it sounds so lovely that way. :)
I love that town, i remember those statures and that mural. It's been
awhile since I have made it up there.  some pretty NICE homes reside in this quaint area.

Babies take some time, but it always seem you make do.  A busy parent maybe a little bit more tired than some.  but, the love creates a quick rebound. :)  Glad you experienced the joy of making a baby fall asleep in your arms. It's a sweet moment.

uh...not worth writing about.  so, sad. ;)

I love hearing about your vacation and hope that work gets o a reasonable state of being behind soon.  It's funny, after you have a child, you wonder what you did with all that time before they were born.

Robbie!!!!  I knew you were going to get back to L.A. and work too hard!  Glad to hear you are "fully staffed" now.  Get that staff trained and d-e-l-e-g-a-t-e.  That way, you won't have to come back to a mess the next time you go on vacation.

Talking about bonding with babies...I had that same experience with my niece thirteen years ago.  I had never had much use for babies...but there was just something special about THAT baby.  I loved her from the moment I set eyes on her.  And she seemed to like me, too.  Sadly, we moved away when she was two, and the bond was broken.  I still love her but it's just not the same...

BTW...the vacation IS worth writing about.  At least go to my journal and look at the pictures...

  Hi Robbie,
Great pix and nice memories, getting away has got to be worth the extra effort of catching up at work that baby is soooooo cute.
You know, when you have a dog, a child or (three like me) your life just automatically adjusts it's self and you find the time. My youngest moved out last year and as hectic as my schedule is, it's hard to imagine how I ever had time to do all the "mother stuff."
At our age, we all look back and evaluate the opportunities that have passed us by, I know that I sure do, now that the kids are gone, the house is quiet and I've got so darn much time to think!
    BTW ... J-Land is turning 2 soon!

I know that feeling of waiting several days to write, then wondering if there's a point.  But, I can't wait to read every detail....so PLEASE....bring it on!

No matter what path we take, I think most of us wonder how it would have beenif our choices had been different.  I love my children with all my heart...but I often wonder how my life would have been if I'd not married....or married someone else.  I know I suffer from "if I'd known then what I know now".  I just understand myself much better today than I did 25 years ago.

It sounds like a nice vacation!  That's the one thing I always hated about my corporate jobs, how the work would pile up while I was gone.

As for having kids....well, never say never. ;)

How would you find time to devote to a child with your schedule? Same as Ken will ... you make the time because that kind of a commitment is important to you. You learn to deal with it and to work it in ... and in your case, deciding to have a child won't be made alone because the guy you're with will be making it with you. That means you'll have help, woman.

And you never know how things are going to turn out. Nope. Who knows what's in store for Robbie a year from now?

Ah baby pics! Love those cheeks. Don't worry, the only lullabye I know is actually a song by Zeppelin. Ha. And some how my kids are halfway normal.

Having a child later in life has its complications, for sure. I don't have the same energy I had when I was in my 20s (and man I sure WISH I did!) But I think we are better equipped, emotionally, to deal with the strains of parenting. :-)
