A couple of weeks ago Gi and I went to the Bowers Museum. They were having an exhibit called "Treasures from Shanghai" Although some aspects of the museum, exhibit, and events of the day weren't such a treasure. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't the company it was the way in which the museum presented pieces and some of the staff had, shall we say, "quirky" personalities. One of whom attached onto Gigi and wouldn't let us go. He had an agenda against the docent and the British museum that befuddled me. I'm all for hearing about conspiracy theories but...well...
When at museums I like to hit the giftshops to see what I can find. I nearly had to wrestle Gigi to the ground for this item but luckily they had an extra one in stock in the back. It's a good thing too because, it was rightfully Gi's since she found it first but gosh I really wanted it. It is a book called "The Wisdom of the Buddha." I am quite the amateur theologian. I enjoy reading about religions and how they came about. I haven't read a lot about Buddhism and thought this book would be just the ticket.
The artwork in the book is quite interesting. I especially like the picture on the front cover and thought I would try to draw it. The lines are pretty simple so I thought it would be a great one to try drawing upside down like Danny Gregory has showed recently in his video demonstrations. I was in a hurry and didn't really concentrate on making it look exact but the above is what I came up with. I labeled it "Bad Buddha" because it looks a bit upsetting. Perhaps I should have called it "Texas Buddha" though because the more I look at it the more it looks like it has a cowboy hat on its head. I came to the conclusion that next time I should take longer than five minutes and perhaps I will give Happy Buddha a try.

I don't know about a cowboy hat... Looks more like he's wearing a brioche... :) Whats the "ghost image" in the upper right?
you are really talented. sometimes, i use my left hand (which was my birth preference until my mom changed it to right) to write to keep my brain equal.
Hahahaha! But not Bad Buddha! Brilliant Buddha ~ I'd know that Buddha anywhere! Besides, he looks perfectly happy to me, not to mention a lot like my Aunt Gertie after a couple of martinis. And she was very happy.
As an amateur theologian surely you must have enjoyed the world view of our conspiracy-minded friend, whose theories, as I recall, had something to do with the ceremonial rites of ancient Egyptians having been demonstrated to them by aliens from space. Or some such. See, this is why I love museums; there is just so much to learn.
But you wouldn't have had to wrestle me for the book ~ I am, after all, a highly Enlightened Being who rejects the desire for all material things and would gladly have surrendered the prize.*
*(Note to self; must remember to beat Robbie to Museum gift shop at any costs... ;D )
