Just call me dork.

"We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." - Anaïs Nin

I came across this quote twice today in two different books. I think the universe is trying to tell me something.  Maybe, I'm not really a dork. It's just how I see things. Honestly, I think the evidence is weighted against that theory, in my case anyhow.

I was supposed to go to a Christmas party tonight with Kevin. I was really looking forward to it. I even bought a new top to wear. Did I go? Nope! Instead, I'm sitting here with a face that feels like it is on fire. You see, I went and had a facial done today. No big deal. At least not in the past when this woman has done it. Today, I had a horrible reaction to something she used on my face. I have allergies and very sensitive skin, especially on my face. I felt it the moment she put the toner on my face. It began burning like I had stuck my face in a bed of hot coals. I blew it off and said it must be the alcohol in the product. She put a lotion on afterward and it felt a bit better as she tortured me some more with hot wax and tweezers on my eyebrows. I came home and laid down for an hour so I would be rested up for tonight. I woke up at six to get ready and that's when I realized what a mistake I made in taking the cheap route. Never again. I am going to the full-fledged spas to get stuff like this done. It costs twice as much but the hell I'm going through tonight is not worth the savings.

Now, I'm wondering if I'm jinxed or something this month. And, I'm fearful. I have a perm scheduled for tomorrow. It's been years since I've had one done. But, my hair has grown quite a bit since I got it cut in October and I need to perk it up some. I'm going to the same woman who cut it then and she did a good job. So...here's hoping whatever is plaguing me will stop tonight. Or else, I might be writing tomorrow about how I have a pain in my back, my face is burning, and I'm bald. Yikes!

Maybe you should wait on the perm. Sorry your face is all red. I'm like you. Everything bothers my skin so I use nothing but ivory soap.

well, I certainly hope your not bald tomorrow!  lol  I am sure you wont be....do you have naturally curly or wavy hair??  If so I hope you go for a wave....but, that 's my opinion...for what it is worth.  :p
also, I love that quote, not only do I love Anais Nin, but it is also in the movie "Kissing Jessica Stein"  which I love too.   :D
great pic!

Oh Robbie...I feel for you! I have really sensitive skin too. Tell your stylist so they don't leave the perm solution on your head for too long. Protect your scalp. :-)

Yikes.  I hope the burning sensation is gone by tomorrow.  As for ways things are, I had a discussion this week about subjective and objective reality.  My point was that really doesn't matter.  It's experienced as real.  Take care of yourself.

That is awful!  I believe when it comes to our faces, it doesn't pay to get the "cheap stuff" so to say.  Even when buying makeup.  I remember once using Avon products and I had such a bad reaction to it, that I will NEVER use those products again on my face.  Good luck with the perm, I hope it ends up just fine.  Make sure to tell her if you want just body or actual curls though, or you may look like a poodle when you come out.  That would not be a good thing!!  Tell her "large rollers, large rollers" and if you see any of those little teeny tiny ones, stop her before she rolls your hair!  LOL!
Hugs and love, Lisa

I burned my own face on accident, I had woken up late and was in a hurry to get ready ASAP and instead of grabbing my bottle of toner off the shelf I grabbed the nail polish remove (acetone) and quickly rubbed all over my face before I was even able to inhale and realize it WASN"T my toner.....can you say BURN BABY BURN! Ouch! Tnanks for visiting my journal and leaving me wonderful feedback!

I feel the pain! I have extremely sensitive skin. I have only had one facial that was NOT a problem. I can't use many lotions and I was recently told it's because many have bees wax or perfumes in them. Now I only use DOVE and products made by Prescriptives cosmetics and I am ok. Hair dye and perms will often irritate my scalp. Be careful. I love your new do. :) ~~Nelle~~

Robbie, I'm wondering if you face could have been chapped prior to going for the facial, maybe wind burned or something. I guess it's a good idea to find out what they will be using on your face before you let them put something on it. Yikes! Feel better.

Dorkdom *is* relative.  Well, how are you feeling today?  How did it go today?  Do we get to see?  Reminder that Mercury is in Retrograde....

Great quote by Nin.  I love that one.

Ouch...sorry for the back & facial problems... :-(  You are not a dork in my book, altho' dorks are supposed to be cool these days, so I suppose you could go that route!  thinking of you, Albert

Oh no! Robbie, you poor thing. (That Anais Nin saying is kicking in for me here ... I feel a bit guilty because I've been talking about spa treatments lately ... heh.)

I hope the perm turned out well. If there's any justice in the world, it did.

Winka,
Andrea

This sounds strangely familiar to Freee's facial experience.  LOL  Aggg.. I'm only further convinced that at-home remedies will do fine.  tehehe... no facials for me.  PAY for torture and a face full of fire??  I think I'll buy chocolate instead.  :P
