Robbie's Ramblings

My month-long bout with PMS seems to be subsiding. My mood is improving by leaps and bounds. I think part of it is because I am getting things done and it feels good. My brother suggested that what I needed was a weekend at a resort. I told him I just couldn't feel right spending the money right now since I still need furniture for my apartment and a new car. So, this weekend, I went and bought a new bed. It's being delivered on the 17th. Woohoo! No, I'm not sleeping on the floor. I have a twin bed that was given to me when I moved to California. It was in storage for a while, as my last roommate situation came with a bed. I'm still thinking about doing a day at a spa though. After reading Stephweiss's entry last night about her Spa Day, I'm pretty much sold.

Speaking of Journals, I am behind once again on reading. So, if I haven't been by your place in a while. Please forgive me. I'll be there soon. I am constantly trying to figure out how to hit all the journals that I enjoy. I think I've finally come up with a manageable system so I will be able to hit everyone at least once a week and still have a life outside of J-Land.

After the pushing and prodding in the comments section of my last entry about finishing my last class that I need to take in order to receive my diploma, I decided to break down and register. Too little too late, I hate to say. The only available Finance class this summer that I haven't already taken starts next week. It doesn't list the days or times that the class will be and it's on Real Estate Valuation. Yawnsville! So... I decided to go for the Independent Study with my Creepy Professor. I shot him an email, my heart was pounding, nervous about what it might entail both scholastically and personally. But, he's still open and willing. So...wish me well and send Maceplease.

I've actually been seeking pleasurable pursuits also. Last Sunday, I had brunch with Kevin and a bunch of his friends. Tonight, I'm going to dinner with my school chums. It's hard to believe it has been a month since I last saw them. I really miss them. I'm hooked on Big Brother 5. As Kevin learned last night, don't call me when it's on. I think this is going to be a great season. I've watched every season except the first one. I think the 2nd season is my favorite though. I'm also reading The Count of Monte Cristo. I love this book. I'm actually torn between reading it and journals. How could I not love it though with lines like this: "And, now," said the man on the yacht, "farewell to kindness, humanity and gratitude. Farewell to all sentiments that gladden the heart. I have substituted myself for Providence in rewarding the good; may the God of vengeance now yield me His place to punish the wicked!"

Fear not! I am not some kind of vengeful psycho. I just love the intense passion expressed in so few words. One thing I've learned is that vengeance is useless. It does more damage to you than it does to the person on whom you seek revenge. Plus, I have this noble, idealistic belief that a person should never stoop to the level of their opponent/enemy. It only weakens your position and corrupts your soul.  A line in the book says it well: "Hatred is blind, anger is foolhardy, and he who pours out vengeance risks having to drink a bitter draft." One last line, for now, that I like. It's from the scene where the Count is witnessing a public execution: "Oh, mankind, race of crocodiles! How well I recognize you down there, and how worthy you are of yourselves!" Dumas is an amazing writer. I will definitely have to read some of his other books. But for now.....I must get ready for work.

Note: The picture is another one from my day at the Getty. I have a few more that I'll try to share.

Oh, heavens, of course your forgiven, sheesh. You didn't need to ask. Use alerts and read the first few paragraph and skip those that don't seem to interest you. Its what I do. It isn't perfect, but its my system.

And I even remember to comment occasionally. 8-)

<I have this noble, idealistic belief that a person should never stoop to the level of their opponent/enemy. It only weakens your position and corrupts your soul.>  If only we could get the political geniuses in this country to figure this one out!

Glad you're feeling better!  Good luck with the creepy professor.  Lisa  :-]

Glad to hear you're feeling better and getting out and doing some fun things.  It's so easy to get lost in the journal world.  Since I started walking again, I find I spend less and less time during the day on the computer (I save it for the evening when I've got nothing to do anyway).  I love Big Brother too!  I thought I was the only one who loved that show.  Have a great weekend!

well, I am glad the dark clouds are starting to dissipate. :)  I have heard that The Count of Monte Cristo is like, a 1,000 pages or somthing.  Is this true?   The longest book I have read was, IT from Stephen King.   I think it had 1,003...not sure.  But, when the book is good.  It just doesn't seem to matter. :)
enjoy your day and good luck with the new adventures and with the creeeepy professer. lol. :)

Robbie,
I'm glad your spirits are lifting.  Believe me, I know about that month long PMS thing.  Sometimes it lasts longer than that for me!  lol
Ya know...sometimes you just have to splurge on yourself.  Take the time to do something special just for you, because you are worth it!
I've never read the "Count" before.  Sounds like an interesting read!
Have a great day sweets!

Glad your feeling better! Love the pic :)
Spa days are always a good thing and a new bed is even better!
I caught BB5 last night and it looks like it could be VERY good.

I think I'm dealing with a life-long bout with PMS! :P

congrats on the new bed!

Thanks for sharing the line in the book about revenge. Very worth reading. Again, and again.

You've changed the color of your journal again? I like it. Very soothing to the eyes. For some reason, I squint less here. lol

Thanks for the link ;-) sweetie!  I think you may have helped me get up to #67, lol... (when you get to my journal you'll see what I mean)  I'm so happy to read about other fairly *intelligent* people who watch BB... it's one of my most embarrassing Reality TV choices... As I was saying to PollySci-- Survivor I can justify, Bachelor/ette is campy, but BB?  there's just no good excuse for that one. glad your mood is improving!  --Albert

I welcome your updates and am glad to hear I'm not the only one lagging behind.  So much going on in your life!  I also find the classics full of applicable 'life lessons'; they seem to offer such wisdom with those words that have stood the test of time.  ¤Holly

Robbie...MY INITIALS are PMS and I'm a guy! Thanks for the kind birthday wish. I miss you over at Trickle--I think people have stopped reading it completely.

The count of Monte Cristo was one of my favorite books for the longest time.  Revenge is a dish best served cold....I imagine I butchered that phrase.

Well it seems everyone's getting behind lately. And Lord knows I'm so behind it isn't even funny! Of course I made the mistake of NOT ghosting while online and have an IM catcher full of chatter even though I have an away message up stating I'm trying to read journals. Go figure. LOL! Sorry about the PMS. I know better than to say much of anything else about that. ;-) YAY for the new bed! And I think your brother is totally right!

I remember reading TCOMC and liking it. But damn that was so long ago I could probably only give the barest of outlines if asked. LOL!

Sending mace, :-)

Oh, I love those lines.  "Farewell to kindness, humanity and gratitude. Farewell to all sentiments that gladden the heart..."
Terrific!  Dumas had a way of seizing an idea by the teeth and tossing it around with energy and gusto, didn't he? You've inspired me to make this my next 'real' read.  Thankyou for sharing it!

I'm glad the funk clouds are parting; you're right about action and decisiveness probably being a factor.  Independent study is a great idea, but good luck with creepy stare-prof....('Oh, mankind, race of crocodiles!')  I love that!  You're right; Dumas is great!  :)

Finally, another Big Brother addict for Albert and me!  Season 3 w/ Amy and Marcellas was my personal favorite. =]

Enjoy The Count of Monte Cristo.  I love that book.  When you're finished, if you haven't already, watch the 2002 film adaption starring Jim Caviezel as Edmond Dantes. It doesn't follow the book very well, but it makes for a good movie on a rainy night.

Woot!  A new bed!  New furniture is great.  We're having our living room suite delivered tomorrow and I can't wait!!  I've suffered for almost 10 years with ONE couch, a couch that is nearly falling apart now. I've never had a coffee table, much less end tables, an oversized chair and ottoman!  It'll spoil me, I'm sure - even though I don't sit in the living room.

Getting behind in journals doesn't take much.  Walk away for a day or two and bloglines becomes overwhelming.  Try 4 days!  Ouch.  ::sigh::

One more class before you get your diploma??? Not THAT is something to celebrate. Congratulations!!!
