I did not watch the Superbowl half-time follies because I was boycotting it because of their refusal to air the Moveon.org commercial for being too controversial. I am not one for censorship of any kind. Janet's breast on the airwaves are not offensive to me. I also believe things such as that have their time and place. Family programing time is not the place. This brings me to why I like CBS Sunday Morning so much. It's a great news program. It doesn't try to be scandalous or controversial. It's feel good, but it is news. This morning there was a commercial for a new drug called Cialis. Some of these drug commercials are so obscure that you're not really sure what they are for. Not Cialis! The commercial says things like "erectile dysfunction"; "goes to work fast and can last up to 36 hours"; "erections lasting longer than 4 hours"; "healthy enough for sexual activity". These are not obtuse phrasings. You know exactly what this medication is for. I do not have any children but I would be horrified if I did. Because I'm sure at 8 a.m. on a Sunday morning they would be sitting with me watching what I thought was an innocuous feel good program, only to be confronted with a commercial that talks about erections and their dysfunctions. Having "the talk" with a four year old because of a commercial that is aired is just as erroneous as having to talk to them about what that lady did during the Superbowl.

This entry makes perfect sense, Robbie. And I couldn't agree with you more. There's a time and place for everything.
Janet's breasts didn't offend me...but had Parker been old enough to watch the Superbowl...and saw her boobs flying here and there...I'd probably be a bit peeved.
And yes..I too am SO SICK of the characther limits. When does it change to 25,000 characters? Or is that even the case anymore?

Yay for boycotting the Superbowl. Moveon.org rocks! And personally, I think Janet Jackson is a genius [or, her PR manager is anyway] - She's even more mega-famous now! I don't care about nudity or language...and I've been around/raising kids. It's shaming to hide the body or "bleep" language - and it's age discrimination. Sends a mixed-message. [My 2cents] And those pesky character limits are soon to be increased! :)
I was a big liberal until I had children, well a child. You want the world to be a good and decent place for them. I see the world going to hell in a hand basket. The Superbowl fiasco is just a microcosm of whats going on with our youths values or lack of.
The Jackson boob-baring is not age appropriate, but then again, neither is violence. Why we let our children watch violent movies or sports and then freak out at a bare breast that was onscreen for mere seconds is beyond me. Faux pas like this will inadvertently happen, it's up to grownups to put it in perspective.
I agree with you fully!! There are some comericals that are invasive to home life and should be taken off the air. But the almighty dollar speaks and once more the people suffer for it. Hugs Lanny
well, I think it's a great entry....the title is called Sunday Morning Ramblings..is it supposed to make a great deal of sense?
that is how I read it, Robbie Rambling on and on...so it made a lot of sense to me.
It almost read like the book I am reading now "Pride and Prejudice" your a young Jane Austen. :)
