Suburban Housewife Party

Suburban Housewife Party.  That's where I was last night.  I stick out like a sore thumb. I am far removed from the suburbs, mentally, if not physically. I am far removed from the housewife status, as well. During my twenties, it seemed all my friends were getting married. During my early thirties, everyone I knew was having babies. So, now I have a cache of friends who if I want to see them, I must acquiesce and attend these home-parties. Last night it was a "Stampin-Up" party. They are kind of cool for the creatively challenged, like myself. I go and spend tons of money on stuff I have no time to use. Oh sure, I've made the occasional card. One year, I even made all of my Christmas cards but ran out of time to get them mailed off. I have no clue where they are. Maybe once I get everything organized, I'll find them and finally send them out this year. There's all kinds of companies that market to the Suburban Housewife. Some have been around for years.  Of course, the oldest, that I recall, are  Tupperware and Mary Kay. I thought maybe they didn't exist anymore since I haven't been invited to one for at least ten years. But, yes, they are still out there somewhere. Lately, there are new companies that seem popular with my haggled, housewife friends. They are Pampered Chef, At Home America, Stampin-Up, a candle one that I cannot remember the name of, another stamp one, and a basket one. I've never attended the candle or basket one. As much as I love my friends, a night of overly priced candles or baskets is asking too much of me.  I'm hoping one of these days, one of the gals will get a wild hair and have a Lingerie party. Now, that would be a fun party to me. There actually are companies who direct market lingerie.  I'd like to know when they will start coming up with parties for the aging single-gal. Our numbers are growing. More women are waiting until later in life to settle down.  However, I won't hold my breath.

Aren't you a good friend to sit through the drudgery of these parties? I'll let you in on a secret--most of us housewives don't like them either. The only one who ever makes out is the one giving the party. I guess it's just an excuse to get away--an expensive excuse...

LoL... I HATE those parties. They have them for everything - even candles!! Hell, I just go to Walmart for my candles. I'm not gonna pay $20 for one! So far, I've been tricked into ONE Pampered Chef party. Bought stuff I've never used. My sister sells Mary Kay, so I don't have to worry about that. I just buy direct from her.

Lingerie party.. now, THAT sounds like a hoot! We should plan one! LoL Woohoo!

I only go to those kind of parties for the food. ::snicker snort:: And it just so happens that the last party was for lingerie - Peitra or something. And if you're 5'9" with big boobs and wide shoulders, the stuff fits like a glove. Otherwise, fuhget it.

I had the BEST piece of cheesecake I've ever tasted while at this party. And the games we played! At one point during the evening, we were sitting in each other's laps. I forget why, I was drunk on cheesecake.

Hi Robbie. GREAT entry!!! I Don't get invited to many parties..I guess I have stuck my foot in my mouth One too many times about them. Hope you find another way to get together with your friends. Just recently my friends & I have Just put our foot down & let our husbands know we are just going OUT for the evening w/ our Friends. Didn't go over real well the first time, BUT they got used to it. -- Thanks for coming by and visiting me again at my journal.

For the life of me, I can't picture you in a housewife party. 30something single women are definitely becoming more common, so how come we are still subjected to the housefrau get togethers? I think we should set up a party of our own!

I sympathize with you, though I haven't been invited to those parties (thank goodness). I'm not off the hook though, as most of my married friends often invite me to kiddie parties and family celebrations where I feel out of place, sigh.

Hi Robbie! I loved this! I have not been to or even been invited to a stampin up party. I wouldn't be able to go if I was, most likely. But, I do remember the days I went to these parties. In fact, just last year I had a catalog party for Pampered Chef! I knew that no one would come (we live too far out in the country) so, I just let everyone e-mail me their orders :P Got some cool free gifts.
A friend of mine went to one of those lingerie parties and had a blast!

The only "housewifey" parties I ever went to were
those "FUN" parties, you know that sell sex toys and
such. Seriously, most of the stuff I didn't care for (and
I'm not a prude), but the best thing was getting drunk,
eating good party food and laughing your ass off. I
embarrass easily, so I was always a fun target, lol :)
Love, Penny
ps. have no use for tupperware or any other kitchen
thing, but I did buy a pizza cutter from Pampered and
its nice.

Hey Robbie, I love Tupperware...but it is too expensive, I only buy when I have to go to one of these parties!!! I use to be a Princess House consultant. Never did like Mary Kay. I love Pampered Chef... bought a great knife from there that even my hubby likes!!! Don't like candles... OMG!! I just remembered a party that I was invited to that had lingerie and adult games.. I hadn't thought about that in years!! My hubby and I bought a board game!!! too funny.. Why don't you think of a company that will cater to the waiting til later in life to settle down..there might be a market for that!!! and you could make your millions!!!! :-)
