In mourning

We must accept finite disappointment but we must never lose infinite hope.

~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

Personally, I'm not there yet. But, I'm trying.

Of course, the news about raising the debt ceiling hasn't helped.

"The Republican-controlled Congress put off dealing with the debt ceiling before adjourning in October, preferring not to force members to vote on the politically sensitive issue of adding to the national debt before the November elections."

How convenient!

Nor has the recent news that my eighteen year-old nephew who just graduated high school this past Spring and is currently going through training in the Army will be sent to Afghanistan as soon as he is done, helped me to process this extreme disappointment any easier.

Well, I guess I'm moving along in the grieving process. I have graduated from denial to bitterness. Watch out when it gets to the reckoning stage.

I've found the only thing I can really do right now is take in the information in small pieces.  I didn't listen to the radio, haven't tuned into any TV news.  Did manage to read, almost by mistake, that the Bush camp is already crowing about their "mandate."  Bite me!
I wish I didn't feel so...like the minority in this country!  It sucks to feel so passionately about things political, and really believe you are right, and find yourself so powerless and ineffective.  This is what we should work to change over the next four years.  Lisa  :-]

I feel what you're feeling Robbie......a lot of issues that hit me and have hit me wrong has made me somewhat bitter.  That's not a good feeling...........even in the land of freedom.  I however, like you have my faith and hope!  Nobody can take that away from me!  ~~Angel on Your Shoulder~~

I'm still stuck in denial with moments of tears. :(

I hear you Robbie.  I'm not 'there' yet either.  I wore black today.  I considered changing my journal colors to reflect the state of mourning so many of us are experiencing.  This is just devastating.  We'll come around, in our own time...and no sooner.

Prayers for all of us these next 4 years.
I'm sorry that your nephew has to be deployed...I keep hoping that they all can come home safely and soon!

Hugs,
Gretchen

It's darn convenient that the FEDERAL government can basically print money while the states can't. We get stuck with the unfunded mandates. While the Dems used to be called the tax and spend party the Repulicans have become the get rid of the surplus, don't tax and keep on truckin' uh that is spendin'.

I'm trying to hard not to be bitter.  Bitterness and anger won't serve this country.  I want to feel motivated, inspired, moved to action.  I want to DO something.  I think I've stayed silent too long.  And now, I'm full of regret.  I think the King quote says a lot.  He was a man who turned his bitterness and anger and disappointment into power, movement, inspiration.  That's what I feel so many of us need.
